As part of their Community Action Project, our East LA site at LA CAUSA YouthBuild hosted an Introduction to Catering Showcase. At the event, students in Chef Orlando's Culinary Arts class presented a delicious buffet of small bites and debuted three unique vinaigrette salad dressing creations.

Students in Mr. Crehan's film class at our Compton YouthBuild site created this commercial for their classroom based program. This was genuine collaboration: from what was covered, to the way each scene was shot, to the order in which it was presented, to the music used, to the editing. Everything! Irene Marin, a March 2021 graduate from our El Monte site at the San Gabriel Valley Conservation Corps, was tragically taken from this world on December 24, 2021. In addition to being an outstanding student at YouthBuild Charter School of California, Irene was a volunteer with Project Coffee Cup, an El Monte Police Explorer, a Rio Hondo College student and a beloved daughter. We wanted to honor her legacy and share her story with others.

Next Friday, March 18th, students from our East LA site at LA CAUSA YouthBuild will be showcasing what they've learned in Chef Orlando's Culinary Arts class this trimester.

We are now recruiting students to join our CAMT job training program! CAMT students earn 10 credits and will be placed in a paid internship in Summer 2022. Classes start on March 10th, so sign up today!

We need your support as we seek to stabilize our funding for this year and next. California Senate Bill 579, which will allow us to use our 2019-20 school ADA as our revenue calculator for 2021-22 and for 2022-23. With this “hold harmless” in place for these two years, we will be able to emerge out of this pandemic without suffering devastating financial losses.

Kaiser Permanente and and McCarthy Building Companies partnered with Compton YouthBuild to provide our Compton students with educational workshops, woodworking experience, and a tour of an active job site. McCarthy Construction donated materials and supplies for students to build container gardens that they could take homem and students were invited to tour an active construction site – the expansion of Kaiser Permanente South Bay Medical Center’s emergency department.

In this month's Student Spotlight, we are featuring Yashimah, a student at our Lennox site at SBWIB YouthBuild. Yashimah credits YouthBuild's supportive environment for helping her stay on track and improve her grades.

We've made some updates to our Covid-19 Safety Plan as of 1/20/22. These include new mask guidelines for staff, testing and screening guidelines, and quarantine guidelines. The new Safety Plan also includes additional resources and information in the Appendix, including instructions for our self-screening app and the rapid antigen testing process.

After having to relocate during the pandemic, our Pomona campus recently hosted a ribbon cutting and resource fair at their new location at 305 E. Arrow Hwy. The event also included a free Covid-19 vaccine clinic and tours of the new classrooms.

Lupe Acevedo, a senior at our Fresno/Owens Valley site, just finished completing her credits to graduate. She’s excited to experience all the new opportunities that come from earning a high school diploma, including pursuing higher education. Congratulations, Lupe!!

Free meals will be available for all YouthBuild Charter School of California students for the 2021-22 school year. Be sure to fill out and return the Household Income Data Collection Form.

Our East LA site at LA CAUSA YouthBuild held their annual Posada celebration on Wednesday, December 8th. Students, staff and alumni gathered for delicious food, games, gifts, and awards.

Students and staff from our Lennox site at South Bay WIB YouthBuild took an Environmental Awareness day trip to Dockweiler Beach on November 4 where they talked about the environmental challenges facing Californians.
