About Me
Returning to school after quitting to help support a family, after being incarcerated, or due to an undiagnosed learning difference is an act of bravery. Braver still if one left initially due to be being pushed out by inequitable educational system. YouthBuild Charter School of California not only creates a pathway for young adults to restore lost credits, but honors their tenacity. We promote a culture where they are social change agents, addressing the unjust conditions that led to them leaving. Through our project-based learning pedagogy, they also lead community action projects, applying their academic and socio-economic studies to justice issues. Through these student-driven initiatives they help reduce crime, increase voter registration, address food insecurity, and otherwise improve conditions in their neighborhoods.
If you, your foundation, or your corporation values educational equity and leadership development as much as academics and recognizes the positive future our young leaders represent, I would love to connect with you.
I have dedicated my career to supporting promising young people. From writing their stories as a journalist in Southeast San Diego, to serving as technology and education director at a Mid-Wilshire community center, to my current role managing development, procurement and compliance tasks at YCSC, I am fully invested in seeing young people flourish within the potentials they set for themselves.
